1.      Took Mary Downing Hahn. Clarion Books. 2015. Netgalley. MG. Daniel and his sister, Erica, move to the wilds of Woodville, West Virgina. The people there think they’re stuck up snobs from Connecticut and go out of their way to scare them with tales of Auntie, an old conjur woman and her companion, Bloody Bones. It seems every fifty years, a young girl disappears. Daniel doesn’t pay much attention to the stories until his sister is took. Now, with despondent parents, it’s up to him to rescue Erica. I LOVED this book!! Just the right amount of spook!! Downright haunting!! Daniel is a captivating character and the events that happen keep you guessing and hoping everything turns out all right. Highly recommend!!

1.      The Lost Girl by R.L. Stine. Thomas Dunne Books. 2015 Netgalley. Beth Palmeri knows some tricks. Some things she learned from her grandmother. Some says she’s a witch. When her father is kidnapped by a rival stable owner and killed, Beth disappears from 1950. In present day, Michael Frost runs into a girl stealing food from the local supermarket. He befriends her. But bringing her into his group of friends spells big trouble for all. There’s a psycho loose, determined to kill them one by one. This is part of R.L. Stine’s Fear Street series. I’ve never read one of his books before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It did keep me interested but some of the scenes, I felt, were a tad violent. Of course, this may just be me. I’m certainly no stranger to horror. I LOVE a Stephen King book as much as the next. I also was kind of disappointed by the ending. I felt the whole thing played out too predictable in the end. I’m sure fans of Stine will feel different. Like I said, I didn’t absolutely hate the book, but I didn’t come away loving it either.
